Safe travel

Human trafficking is a widespread problem around the world. Therefore, IOM provides advice on how to travel safely, work abroad and where victims of human trafficking can find help.

Legal counselling

Within the scope of the IOM Migration Information Centre (MIC), we will provide you with advice on issues regarding residence, employment, business, family fusion, accommodation, social security, health care and health insurance, education, citizenship and other areas of life and residence of foreigners in Slovakia.

For detailed information, visit Mic.iom.sk.

Financial contributions

We provide a financial contribution for retraining and educational courses and a financial contribution for the recognition of foreign degrees.

Job counselling

We will help you orient yourself on the labour market, when looking for a job, preparing a CV and a covering letter and prepare you for a job interview. We will help you with the recognition of your degrees and diplomas. We can provide you with advice in case you conclude an employment contract (rights and obligations of the employee and the employer) and in case you lose your job (rights and obligations of the employee, change of residence).

If you need help, call our info line (see the telephone contacts below).

Open Slovak language courses

The IOM Migration Information Centre (MIC) organizes free Open Slovak language courses for foreigners – for adult participants who have not attended these courses yet. The Slovak language courses are without entrance tests and are intended for complete beginners. The courses are conducted using interactive teaching methods, during which we emphasize conversation and the acquisition of the basics of the Slovak language in everyday communication (e.g., in the supermarket, in the bank, at work, at the doctor’s office, meeting friends, etc.).

You will not receive a language certificate by completing these courses.

You can apply for the course if you meet at least one of the following conditions.

  • You are a foreigner and have a temporary, permanent or tolerated residence in Slovakia, temporary protection or you have just applied for temporary protection.
  • You are an EU citizen with higher education.
  • You are an EU citizen and you work in a highly qualified position.
