Severe disability allowance
If you are an expatriate from Ukraine with a severe disability, you can apply for financial support. Visit the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family in your place of residence and submit a written application for persons with severe disabilities.
After submitting the application, the employees of the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family will assess whether the degree of your severe disability meets the requirements for the payment of the allowance.
If you received this allowance last year from the IOM or UNICEF, you will be assessed in the same way this year.
The allowance is provided in the amount of EUR 300 per month or EUR 508 per month. The amount of the allowance depends on the degree of severity of your disability as assessed by a doctor.
For more information, visit Severe disability allowance.
Material need benefit
Material need benefit is a financial aid that you are entitled to if your monthly income together with the monthly income of the members of your household living with you in Slovakia (your parents, husband, wife, children) is lower than the [[See:minimum | minimum living wage] set by the state.
You can apply for material need benefit at the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family in your place of residence (see addresses and contacts). The Office then calculates whether you are entitled to receive the benefit.
Amount of financial support
The amount of the benefit in material need is as follows:
- 74,00 euros per month – per individual,
- 140,70 euros per month – per individual with a child or a maximum of four children,
- 128,60 euros per month – per couple without children,
- 192,40 euros per month – per couple with a child or a maximum of four children,
- 205,50 euros per month – per individual with more than four children,
- 259,40 euros per month – per couple with more than four children.
The allowance will be paid to you every month.
You can choose how the benefit will be paid, either by postal order to the address that you indicate in the application (in this case, make sure that your name is on the mailbox), or by transfer to the bank account that you have set up in a Slovak bank (in this case, provide the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family with a copy of your contract with the bank).
The first allowance will be paid to you the following month after you apply for financial aid. You can request a change in the method of payment of the contribution at any time.
Children in kindergarten or primary school
If you receive a material need benefit and your children attend a kindergarten or a primary school, you can also receive an allowance for food and school supplies. Ask the employees of the kindergarten or the primary school who will provide you with more information.
Report an important change within 8 days
If you find a new job, or change your address, or the number of members of your family living in Slovakia changes, report this change to the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family. Do so within 8 calendar days.
You can report the change at the office in your place of residence or by e-mail (addresses, phone numbers and e-mails can be found on the website of the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family).
Starting work
If you start a new job, bring your new employment contract or performance contract and income confirmation to the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family in your place of residence.
The Office will find out whether you are entitled to receive the material need benefit even after you start work. The Office will recalculate the entitlement to the benefit based on your income and the income of the members of your household living with you in Slovakia.
Termination of the right to benefit in material need
You are no more entitled to receive the material need benefit if the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family finds out that your income together with the income of the members of your household is higher than the minimum living wage set by the state.
You are no longer entitled to receive the material need benefit if you move away from Slovakia.
