Legal counselling – Human Rights League

The Human Rights League provides legal counselling to refugees, asylum seekers, people with temporary protection and other foreign nationals. You can contact the organisation with questions concerning residence, asylum, temporary protection, employment or discrimination, for example.

Employment and career counselling – Mareena

Mareena provides employment and career counselling at LOOM. It helps people from abroad navigate the Slovak labour market, prepare a CV, find suitable job vacancies, get ready for job interviews and plan the next steps in their professional development.

Social and integration counselling – Bratislava Archdiocesan Charity

Social counselling is available directly at LOOM. The Bratislava Archdiocesan Charity helps people of foreign origin navigate the social welfare, healthcare and education systems. It also offers support in difficult life situations and referrals to other services.

Assistance with access to healthcare – EQUITA

EQUITA helps people who have difficulty accessing healthcare or navigating the Slovak healthcare system. Its assistance is also available to refugees from Ukraine and other vulnerable people.

The organisation provides information, health consultations, assistance with finding a doctor, social support and coordination of the necessary healthcare. Services are available in Slovak, Ukrainian, English and Hungarian.

Košice

The Košice Region Integration Centre at Strojárenská 3 closed on 30 April 2026. However, information, legal, social and integration services for foreign nationals in Košice continue to be provided by several organisations. Most of them can be found at Hlavná 68, Košice.

As each organisation has its own opening hours and some services are only available by appointment, we recommend contacting the relevant organisation before visiting in person.

Košice Foreigners Support Centre

The Foreigners Support Centre provides basic information and counselling to people from abroad who live in Košice. It can help them navigate the available services and assist with matters such as completing documents, employment, education, healthcare, housing, social security and exercising their rights.

The centre operates as a Point of Safety in cooperation with the City of Košice and the Slovak Humanitarian Council.

Slovak language courses and community activities – Mareena

Mareena organises Slovak language courses in Košice for people at different levels. Its programme includes general Slovak and, depending on the current offer, courses focused on using Slovak at work.

In addition to language courses, Mareena organises community events where people from abroad can meet local residents. Its activities in Košice include a book club, language meetings, physical activities and other community events.

The civic association Marginal primarily helps third-country nationals and people who have been granted international protection.

It provides social, psychological and integration support. It can assist with finding accommodation or employment, resolving social issues, communicating with public authorities and doctors, or enrolling children and adults in education.

Assistance in cases of discrimination – Slovak National Centre for Human Rights

If you have experienced discrimination or unequal treatment at work, in housing, education or when accessing services, for example, you can contact the Slovak National Centre for Human Rights.

The centre provides free legal assistance to people who believe that they have been discriminated against or that the principle of equal treatment has been violated.

Nitra

COMIN – Contact Point for Foreign Nationals

If you live in Nitra and do not know which organisation or public authority to contact, you can begin at the COMIN contact point. The centre is intended for refugees and other people of foreign origin who live, work or study in Nitra.

COMIN is part of the Point of Safety network and operates in cooperation with the City of Nitra, the Nitra Community Foundation and the Slovak Humanitarian Council.

The centre provides basic, up-to-date information about life in Slovakia and helps people navigate the available services. Counselling may concern residence, employment, healthcare, social assistance, housing, or education for children and adults, for example.

Slovak language courses and community activities – Mareena

Mareena organises Slovak language courses and community activities in Nitra. These help people from abroad practise Slovak, meet new people and become more familiar with the local environment. The courses are intended for different language levels and focus on practical communication in everyday life. Mareena also offers a Slovak course focused on communication in the workplace.

Mareena does not use one permanent venue for all its activities in Nitra. Courses and events may take place at different partner venues, so always check the current programme and the address of the specific activity before visiting.

Community activities include language meetings, workshops and events where people from abroad can meet local residents. Mareena also has a volunteer community in Nitra that helps organise integration and leisure activities.

Mareena currently also runs the UPLAYS programme for young people from Ukraine in Nitra. The programme focuses on language support, careers, health and shared leisure activities. According to the current schedule, meetings take place on Fridays from 16:00 at the Nitra Student Residence, Slančíkovej 1. Confirm the date before attending, as the programme may change.

Žilinský maják – Information and Support Centre

Žilinský maják is a contact and community centre for people from abroad and local residents. It provides practical information, counselling and assistance with administrative, legal, social, educational and other matters.

The centre operates in cooperation with the City of Žilina, the Slovak Humanitarian Council and the Ukrainian House Žilina.

At Žilinský maják, the Slovak Humanitarian Council provides social counselling, assistance with finding accommodation, a school or healthcare services, material assistance, and accompaniment or interpretation when visiting institutions. Legal counselling by phone and a child- and family-friendly space are also available.

Courses and community activities

Žilinský maják is not only a counselling centre. It also regularly organises activities for children, adults, families and older people.

The Client Centre helps foreign nationals living in Prešov navigate local services and manage practical situations connected with life in Slovakia.

It is part of the Point of Safety network and operates in cooperation with the City of Prešov and the Human Rights League.

Michalovce Integration Centre

The Integration Centre provides information and practical assistance to people from abroad who live in Michalovce or the surrounding area. It helps them navigate the available services and address everyday matters connected with life in Slovakia.

Assistance provided by the Slovak Humanitarian Council

The Slovak Humanitarian Council provides social and other support services in Michalovce. It can assist with finding accommodation, healthcare services or a school, visiting institutions, interpretation, psychological support and integration activities.
